Fishing

NEWS!

During the revision of the fishing and economic basis, which is now called the fishing zone management plan, with the aim of preserving the aquatic ecosystem and the threatened habitats and species dependent on it, which are the goals of preserving the ecological network, new measures for the protection and sustainable management of the fish stocks of Vransko Lake were drawn up, which were adapted current situation in the lake and are applied from January 9, 2024.

Some of these measures we highlight are:

Prohibition of using boilies, pellets, corn, bread and other food for feeding fish

Any introduction of concentrated and enriched food has a negative effect on the good condition of the water and biological diversity. With the aim of restoring the ecological conditions of the shallow lake, it is not allowed to feed fish (with boilies, pellets or other food rich in minerals) in Vransko Lake in order to prevent additional loading of the lake with nutrients.

Fishing with live baits of foreign fish species and strictly protected fish species is prohibited

When hunting predatory species, live baits of foreign fish species are not allowed, which also applies to species caught in the lake (pike, carp, catfish, tench, babushka, bream, gambuzia and sunfish), especially those from other fishing waters, since they represent a risk accidental introduction of foreign species into the lake. Also, it is not allowed to use baits of strictly protected species of fish, because if they are caught, they should immediately be returned unharmed to the water.

What types of fish can you use as live bait? For example harrow (Scardinius dergle) caught in Vransko Lake.

Allowed baits of plant origin are all natural (cereals and legumes) and processed baits (bread, boilies, grits, pastes – from cheese, bread, meat, hemp, ready-made food for dogs and cats) and artificial baits that attract fish with their appearance, color, moving in the water imitating natural food (wobblers and metal lures).

Fishing according to the “catch and release” model

Not a single specimen of the following endangered, strictly protected species of fish may be kept after the catch, but must be returned unharmed to the water from which it was caught:

Anguilla anguilla (European eel)
Knipowitschia panizzae (Adriatic dwarf goby)
Rutilus aula
Salaria fluviatilis (Freshwater blenny).

The hunting season for foreign species has been suspended

Foreign species (pike, carp, catfish, tench, babushka, bream, gambuzia and sunfish) can be caught indefinitely and their return to the water is prohibited. Foreign species, especially carp and babushka, feed by digging in the silt of the lake and thus raise sediment in the lake water, which makes it even more cloudy, and what is even more important, they prevent the restoration of Characeae algae.

For all types of mullet (Chelon labrosus – traveling mullet, Liza saliens – rainbow mullet, Mugil cephalus – head mullet) and Scardinius dergle – harrow, the allowed catch is up to 2 pieces per fisherman per day.
