Brave 6, in majority female volunteers, contributed greatly to dry stone wall restoration of Modrave olive groves during the week May 6th – 13th. Diverse but united group worked full force to master the basics of dry stone wall building, with spending free time to visit valuable localities in the Nature Park and surroundings, from Kunovac near Medviđa all the way to the Island Murter. Mastering the skill of walling under the supervision of NGO 4 Grada Dragodid, different stone structures were explored on Šenična cesta (Wheat road) during the restoration of the road’s collapsed walls, as well as designing innovative and interactive elements, such as dry stone wall sofa for visitors. Throughout the program the capital restoration action took place on the area of Prosika Harbour towards the locality Jugovir, where a dry stone wall complex with a visitor resting area- a wall with a beehive hut was rebuilt. Joining the volunteers were 13 students with professors from the French High school Terre ‘d Horizon, devoting 2 days of field work to the dry stone restoration and inventory topic. The success of the volunteer program was enhance with the assistance from hosts of Campsite Kalebić together with numerous dry stone fans and local master from nearby villages Pirovac, Drage, Banjevci and Budak, as well as ethnologist Jadran Kale from Šibenik. By this occasion we would like to specially thank the volunteers as well as all participants of the firts 7-day volunteer Program “Dry stone wall Mason” in hope of a forthcoming rerun.
